My Opinion on ultimatebet.com
A couple of weeks ago, I finally got around to putting enough money into my Neteller to get started at ultimatebet.com. As it turns out, they give a 20% bonus up to deposits of $500, so of course I had to put in $500 (just long enough for them to deposit the $100 bonus). Recall, the most you get at PP is $50, so a $100 bonus looked real good -- that was the good news. Below I'll tell you what I like, but first let me just enumerate what I don't like about ultimatebet:
1 - Their formula for qualifying for a bonus is much more complex than PP. At PP, you get $10 for every 100 hands. Ultimate has a scheme of points that you earn for various actions, but in my case it was very slow since I don't play large stakes or expensive tournaments. At PP, you play 3 .50-$1 games simultaneously and you get back about $10 per hour -- at Ultimate, you get about $1-$2 per hour. Quite a difference!
2 - The way their games are set up, your seat is always at the bottom of the window, so it's difficult to line up three windows in a manner that let's you view all three hands simultaneously. At PP, I generally try to get in one game with my hand at the top, another at lower left and the third at lower right. You can then see all three at the same time, so you don't get hollered at for slow play.
3 - Sorry about continuing comparisons to PP, but that's where I started so it's all I've got to compare it to. At PP, when it's your turn, the appropriate window pops to the front. If you're busy in another window, you simply click it again and the other waits in the background. At Ultimate, the one where it's your turn keep popping to the front. What you often end up with is the windows jumping to the front one after another, such that it's difficult to click on a decision in any of them. What's worse is that you sometimes go to click fold on one window and hit bet on another, or vice versa.
4 - For some reason, I found it much more difficult to play 3 hands at Ultimate. I'm not sure if the site response was faster, if the players were just acting faster, or if I just wasn't familiar enough with the mechanics of their site. As I said in my Ebook, it's important that you play many hours of play money games at the start to get familiar with the mechanics of how things work. Even then, the real money games are slightly different, so that doesn't completely handle the problem. I guess you just have to lose a little at the start while you're getting comfortable. I don't think I'll be playing there enough to get that comfortable.
5 - At PP, your bonus points are added to your Cashier total as you earn them. In Ultimate, they're not added until you exit the game. As a result it's difficult to know exactly where you are until you leave all the games. I like to know where I am before I quit the games.
6 - At PP, notes about players can be viewed by simply "hovering" your mouse over the player's name. At Ultimate, you have to double click the name and wait for a window to open. Too much time and trouble in the middle of a game.
Now here's what I do like better about ultimatebet :
1 - To see a listing of past hands at PP, you request it then it gets emailed to you. At Ultimate, it comes up in a new window, so it's much faster. The bad news is that you can't save it like you can in the email -- or maybe you can, I haven't really checked on that.
2 - Ultimate has a neat little option called mini-view -- they take the full-view window and abbreviate it to down to a window a couple of inches high. The intent is that you can then watch multiple games much more easily. I never quite got the hang of using the mini-views. Never could tell easily when it was my bet, who all was in, etc.
3 - Ultimate has some kind of bonus for getting others to join up. Since I don't like the site that much, I don't plan to recommend it to anyone. If you play there and like it better, let me know. I'd be interested in hearing some others' opinions.
