An Almost Sure-Win Situation
Bonuses! Bonuses! Bonuses!
They've all got them. Bonus for first deposit, bonus for referring a friend, sometimes even a bonus for making an additional deposit on a specific day. And the good news is that you almost always win while your earning your bonuses!
At Paradise Poker (PP), you have to play about 100 hands of .50-$1 to earn $10 of your bonus. That means you're putting out $7.50 for blinds, so if you play no hands at all, you'll pick up $2.50. But, out of 100 hands, you'll generally get a few decent hands that you can play and win with, so you'll usually get significantly more than that $2.50.
At UltimateBet, the news isn't quite so good. You can play a lower game (.25-.50), but at that level, you have to play about 1000 hands to earn that same $10. I say "about" because it's not really set like at the other sites -- they have a complicated bonus point system that gives different values depending upon pot size, etc. I've only come out ahead about 40% of the bonus-earning sessions that I've played at UltimateBet. I think that's because you're not quite as patient when you know you have to play 100 hands (about an hour, playing 3 games simultaneously) to win $1. I think I've still got about $50 over there that I haven't earned yet, but I may never get around to it because it takes so long. To earn the entire $100 they offer would require playing 10,000 hands! That's about 100 hours in the 3-hand mode. I may never get around to that.
Party Poker is much like PP. You have to play the .50-$1 games, but you earn the bonus much faster. It took me 5 hours to earn my $50 bonus there, plus I won an additional $44 while doing it. Not bad for a few hours of fun!
Well, that's my sure thing. I've found that the more bonuses I can pick up, the more often I have positive sessions. It keeps me patient and I don't play some of those questionable hands that I sometimes venture into.
Don't miss out on the bonuses! Every time you sign up at a new site, be sure that a friend (me would be fine) gets a bonus for your action. If you recommend a site to someone else, be sure you get a bonus for referring them if they do sign up. When you put in your first deposit, be sure you do the maximum amount -- you don't have to play it all. You can make the deposit, get the bonus, then pull the deposit right back out again. Note: They now have an 8-hour limit at some sites -- i.e., when you make a deposit, you can't withdraw from the account for 8 hours. Currently, at PP, the max is a $50 bonus for depositing $200. At Party Poker, it's $50 for deposit of $500. A UltimateBet, it's $100 for deposit of $200. I've managed to arrange a referral bonus of $25 at PP for myself, although they don't generally advertise one -- I merely emailed and asked for it and they gave it to me. It's $50 at Party and they give the new member $25. At UltimateBet, they have some complicated formula for referral bonuses, but I don't plan to send anyone there anyway.
There are other bonuses offered and they change frequently, so you need to check their website occasionally to keep up. As I mentioned in the previous chapter, Party Poker offers bonuses every month or so, with a limited period of time when they're available.
NOTE: If you're entitled to a bonus and don't see it in a few minutes, don't hesitate to email and ask about it (e.g., support@'sitename'.com). They're very quick on answering emails and are generally very accommodating. Don't hesitate to email them about any question/problem you have at their website!
