Behind the campground, there was a nature trail leading across a little lake and up a mountain overlooking the Rio Grande. At the start of the path, there was a brochure (for a quarter) that told what to look for as you walked along. Below left is the walkway across the lake and center is a shot of the bamboo-like reeds on the edge of the lake -- quite a surprise in the middle of the desert. Following that are the sunset pictures taken from the top of the mountain, looking South into Mexico.
Left, you can just see a bit of the river with Mexico on the other side.
Right, the Madieras del Carmen start turning gold as the sun starts to set.
Below, I tried to take a 'panorama' -- you can just see the village of Boquillas, Mexico at the base of the mountains in the center of the left-hand shot and again on the left side of the center shot. This is about 7 P. M., when the sunset is at it's prettiest. More on Boquillas in Chapter 21.
