1962 Volvo 544 - (1962-1965) Photo found on the internet. Mine was this color, but I think I had white sidewall tires. I don't think I actually quit asking for whitewalls until about 1995, long after most people gave them up. I traded my Pontiac in for this car in 1962 and paid $2395 for it brand new off the showroom floor. Quite different from today's Volvo prices. This car was one of the most reliable of any I've ever had. In 1962, I retired from my mailman job and took this car around the country. The seats folded down into a rather comfortable bed, so I lived in the car for about a month, driving through 27 states, Canada, and Mexico. I took it to the dragstrip and won in Roanoke, VA, Minneapolis, MN, and Phoenix, AZ. Never had to tune it or do any repair on it, other than occasionally adjusting the dual side-draft carburetors. It also served me well during my time in the USAF, carrying myself and many friends on numerous bar-hopping expeditions to Wichita Falls, TX, Oklahoma City and Lawton, OK, and later Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
