1996 GMC Sierra pickup (with 1998 Innsbruck 23' Fifth Wheel) - (1998-2002) Photo taken by Bob Hoffman in 2002 at a campground in North Carolina. The salesman that sold me this truck and trailer said the the truck got 18 mpg while towing much bigger trailers than this. He said the used it continuously to move their trailers and that it could tow anything. It had a very large 6.7 liter turbo-charged diesel engine, so should have been powerful. As it turned out, it struggled on hills, got about 8 mpg, overheated alot despite a couple of radiator flushings, and the brakes were insufficient to stop the rig satisfactorily. All-in-all, it really turned me off of diesels. Add to that the problems you have trying to find diesel fuel on the interstates and I've pretty much decided no more diesel for me.
